Stanley Kubrick’s sci-fi masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey gets a special 50th anniversary run at TIFF Bell Lightbox beginning June 6, and one of the selling points will be what viewers won’t be getting. This isn’t a newly digitized version of the film or one that has been altered in any way. The idea is to recreate as closely as possible the experience of seeing 2001 — the story of man’s first contacts with extraterrestrial intelligence — as it was first viewed on April 2, 1968 at its world premiere in Washington, D.C. The TIFF Bell Lightbox run will be the only one in Canada. Tickets for the 2001 screenings at TIFF will be $17 for adults, $14 for seniors/students and $12 children/TIFF members from Tiff.net as of 10 a.m. Friday.
