Newcastle United star Fabian Schar would have become the first ever centre-back to score a Premier League hat-trick had he tucked away a second half chance against Aston Villa. But the Switzerland international saw his effort, on his weaker foot, palmed away from danger during the 3-1 win over the Villans. Schar actually afforded himself a chuckle as the chance passed him by after putting Newcastle 2-0 up at Villa Park. When asked how he felt about missing out on the accolade of being the first defender to score a treble in the Premier League, Schar said: "It was really close!
