Una Butler: ‘If I was involved with husband’s mental health treatment I wouldn’t have lost him and my little girls’

Una Butler is calling for families to have more involvement in their loved one's mental health treatments 11 years after she tragic lost her two young girls and husband in a murder-suicide. The mother believes this measure should be mandatory when children are living with someone who is suffering with their mental health. "They are afraid maybe a patient won’t present themselves to the health professionals if they feel someone else will be involved,” she said. “But because it doesn't impact you, you read about it and you say, ‘That poor woman, that poor family, those poor girls’. "I know Una campaigned long and hard at the time (to have the Mental Health Act altered to allow families to have a bigger say when someone is struggling with their mental health), but nothing seems to have changed in 10 years and here we are, sitting here.
