Sports News of Friday, 13 February 2026Source: www.ghanaweb.comThe International Olympic Committee (IOC) has disqualified Ukrainian athlete, Vladyslav Heraskevych for repeatedly wearing a helmet depicting images of athletes killed in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The athlete reportedly wore the helmet during training runs ahead of the competition and was cautioned to change it, as it breached the Olympic Charter. IOC President Kirsty Coventry also visited Heraskevych in an attempt to convince him to remove the helmet before the event began. Despite these efforts and several warnings, the athlete defied the directive and proceeded to wear the controversial helmet during his event. The Ukrainian athlete opposed the ruling, arguing that other athletes who used similar approaches in the past were allowed to compete without sanctions, suggesting bias in the decision.
