That night I wrote a column memorializing him, sickened over the death of yet another comrade for opposing Vladimir Putin. Here’s the real headline: There’s a war going on in Europe, and Ukraine is on the front line. Babchenko and others like him are targets of a system of assassins run by Russia around the world. Babchenko has no illusions about the United States finding common ground with Putin’s Russia.
