Ukraine grain deal under threat: What does it mean for the Middle East and Africa?

In November, when the deal was temporarily halted amid a row over sanctions against Russia, wheat prices rose around 3 per cent. Bakeries in many countries in the Middle East rely on grain from warring Russia and Ukraine. But while much of the Mena region has successfully diversified its sources of wheat, countries in East Africa, including Sudan, remain vulnerable.
