Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has called on the media to protect the freedom of Kenyans and safeguard the nation's democracy. Kenyatta urged the media to champion the cause of freedom for Kenyans and safeguard the democratic principles of the country. "Na nawashukuru wote, na ombi langu kama fourth estate, lindine uhuru wa wakenya. Sina lingine hio ni haki yenu na wakenya wanatarajia mfanye hivyo,"(I thank you all, and my plea as the fourth estate, protect the freedom of Kenyans. In response to the incident, Uhuru Kenyatta criticized the government for targeting his family members, including the recent withdrawal of security for former First Lady Ngina Kenyatta.
