President Uhuru Kenyatta, on New Year's eve, broke the tradition of presidents crossing over the year in Mombasa and instead chose his newly acquired 1,000-acre new home located in Masai Mara area, Narok County. A report by Daily Nation on Saturday, January 2, noted that the Head of State gave his annual end-of-year speech at the expansive ranch overlooking the Maasai Mara National park. "Welcome to Narok County Mr. President and thank you for choosing Narok County as a place to celebrate the New Year and also to retire! The ranch is located next to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. During his stay at the ranch, Uhuru also created one more sub-county bringing the total to seven.
