Ugandan students aged 12-18 to get Covid jab before returning to school

Learning institutions in Uganda will have to wait longer before resuming studies disrupted by coronavirus as the ministries of health and education set out conditions to be met before reopening. In a statement on Tuesday, Minister of Education and First Lady Janet Museveni said teaching staff and the learners aged 12-18 years should be vaccinated first. “Getting our teaching staff and learners vaccinated is first, and foremost for their own personal wellbeing and safety,” the First Lady said. She said that her ministry has engaged with the Ministry of Health to align its efforts towards getting the group vaccinated. President Yoweri Museveni had in July ordered the closure of schools for 42 days following the spike in the number of Covid cases and deaths.
