Uefa is to ask Fifa to consider allow temporary substitutes to come on if players are suspected to have suffered concussion during a match. The European body believes a change in the law will take the pressure off medical staff and allow doctors longer to assess whether a player has been concussed. It comes after Tottenham Hotspur’s defender Jan Vertonghen had to be helped from the field during the Champions League semi-final against Ajax after being cleared to continue following a collision with a team-mate. Spurs have insisted the Belgian defender was not concussed. Uefa discussed the issue at its executive committee meeting in Baku and will now approach Fifa and the International FA Board, the game’s law-making body, asking for changes such as substitutions.
