The body of Sa-ngiam Hasodsong was retrieved around 9pm from the three-metre-deep creek in Tambon Sam Phrao of Muang district, hours after she was noticed as missing. She was due to return the buffalo herd to a cage at her family’s rice-field hut by 5pm as per her routine. The next-door neighbour, seeing that only Sa-ngiam’s dog had returned to the hut by 5pm, alerted the woman’s relatives and they searched the nearby wooded area. They found the six buffaloes tied to creek-side tree, with the woman’s belongings nearby, and so searched for her in the water. As her family had expressed no doubt over the death, the body was returned to the family for a later funeral.
