After repeated notices from the Gurgaon regional transport authority, UberMOTO — cab aggregator Uber’s bike taxi wing — has started using two-wheelers with yellow number plates as mandated for commercial vehicles. In one of its notices, the RTA even compared UberMOTO bike taxis on white number plates akin to “organised crime”. Initially, some of them used private bikes with white number plates for ride-sharing or bike-pooling. Cracking the whip on bike taxis running with white number plates, the RTA had impounded about 40 bikes of UberMOTO in May and June. After the crackdown, the company gave it in writing to the RTA that it would use yellow number plates.
