Waymo attorneys also revealed on Wednesday that Jacobs' lawyer received an additional $3 million payout from Uber for his work. Extortion or not, the Jacobs Letter has thrown a wrench in the case. Padilla said Uber had not deliberately tried to keep the Jacobs Letter secret. Two committees of Uber's board of directors, including one focused on "special matters", were also made aware of the Jacobs Letter.
