BANGKOK: The national Uber Cup team yet again failed to advance beyond the group stage following a 4-1 defeat to defending champions China in their second Group D tie at the IMPACT Arena in Muang Thong Thani on Tuesday. Soniia Cheah started well but she could not last until the end in the 18-21, 22-20, 21-18 defeat to World No 5 Chen Yufei. Gao Fangjie overcame Malaysia’s Lee Ying Ying 21-16, 21-15 in the final match of the tie. Malaysia play France for pride on Wednesday, while China take on Indonesia to determine the group champions and runners-up. The last time Malaysia cleared the group stage of the Uber Cup was in 2010 in Kuala Lumpur.
