KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) should not involve motorsports sanctioning bodies in their plans for continuing with the Educational Innovation in Motorsport and Automotive Race (EIMARACE) next year. Karting activitst Nik Iruwan Nik Izani, in response to UTM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Wahid Omar's statement yesterday, said UTM should take full charge of the event. The EIMARACE, which has been running since 2009, was this year sanctioned by the Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM). Tragedy struck the EIMARACE event in Indera Mahkota, Kuantan on Sept 25 when a vehicle veered off track, killing two spectators. "In motorsports the equipment and guidelines used for safety are determined by the FIA and enforced by our sanctioning bodies," said Nik Iruwan.
