Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) will soon be equipped with 1Gbps fibre Internet access at two of its campuses, in Sungai Long and Kampar. This follows a collaboration with Maxis Bhd to provide high-speed Internet service with inter-campus link, plus the telco’s Internet Protocol Metro Area Network (IPMAN). Maxis chief enterprise business officer Paul McManus said the Internet has become critical in our lives, and for students especially, they are central to academic, administration and lifestyle activities. Maxis has been collaborating with universities for campus-wide connectivity for several years now, previously partnering with University Malaya and University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to connect UKM’s 13 campuses nationwide. Maxis also fitted selected UKM buses with free WiFi on board to ensure that students are connected on-the-go.
