One of Team USA’s most powerful sports federations, USA Swimming, called on the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee to push for the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics because of the coronavirus pandemic, even as USOPC officials said they wouldn’t lobby the International Olympic Committee for a delay. USA Swimming officials wrote a letter to the USOPC on Friday urging it to “use its voice and speak up for the athletes” by advocating for a one-year delay of the Tokyo Games, which are scheduled to start July 24.
