USA Gymnastics President Steve Penny resigned Thursday amid claims the organization responded too slowly to sexual abuse allegations, roughly a week after U.S. Olympic Committee officials reportedly called for his ouster. “USA Gymnastics and the entire gymnastics community must work together to focus on keeping athletes safe,” Parilla continued. USA Gymnastics took five weeks to fire Nassar and notify the FBI of a complaint against him in 2015, according to CBS. She appeared alongside two other former Team USA gymnasts, Jamie Dantzscher and Jeanette Antolin, who also claimed they were abused by Nassar. “Emotional abuse is rampant and physical abuse is out there and sexual abuse is a byproduct of what happens when that is the culture,” Howard said during the segment.
