US to resume refugee admissions

The new order will accompany a sharp cutback on refugee admissions under Trump. REFUGEE CAPPresident Barack Obama set the refugee cap at 110,000 for the fiscal year that ended on September 30, 2017. For fiscal year 2018, President Trump has cut the maximum number to 45,000. All but North Korea are mainly Muslim populations, and in the past have been the source of the largest portion of US refugee admissions. But the net effect over the longer term will be that the top United Nations refugee official will not be able to lean on the United States to accept as many people as in the past.
