The U.S. is sending an aircraft carrier group to the Middle East ahead of schedule and warning that Iran and its proxy forces are showing "troubling and escalatory" indications of a possible attack on American forces in the region. "The United States is not seeking war with the Iranian regime, but we are fully prepared to respond to any attack, whether by proxy, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or regular Iranian forces," Bolton said. "Our objective is to get the Islamic Republic of Iran to behave like a normal nation," Pompeo told reporters during a visit to Finland. For years, the U.S. maintained a carrier presence in the Persian Gulf and Middle East region. Last year the administration decided to end the continuous carrier presence, and send a strike group only intermittently into the region.
