US Congressman Jim Banks introduced the resolution on February 28, which was referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs. Titled "Expressing concern about the threat posed to democracy and human rights by theocratic groups operating in South Asia", the resolution was placed with an aim to eradicate militancy in Bangladesh, and also, Pakistan. It also called upon the governments of Bangladesh and Pakistan to deny, disrupt, and dismantle the ability of Jamaat, and its affiliates, from posing an immediate and ongoing threat to religious freedom and regional stability. Previously, on November 20, Jim Banks placed another resolution in the House of Representatives with a similar aim to stop Jamaat, Chhatra Shibir, and Hefazat-e-Islam from engaging in activity inside the country.
