US firm on right to operate in South China

US firm on right to operate in South China 0 SHARES Share it! Share TweetBy Roy MabasaThe United States will continue to exercise its right to fly, sail and operate in the disputed South China Sea and in other areas where international law allows it, notwithstanding the statement of a ranking Chinese military officer who called for Beijing’s more aggressive stance against the US’ freedom of navigation operations in the disputed waters. “We don’t intend to enter into Chinese waters, we intend to enter into international waters, both in the South China Sea and everywhere in the world and exercise our rights under international law. So this would be China’s move if they want to escalate and threaten a ship that’s sailing in international waters in accordance of international law,” said US Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary for South and Southeast Asia Joseph Felter. Felter arrived in Manila on Tuesday when he accompanied the return of the three bells of Balangiga to the Philippines aboard a US Air Force plane from Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan.
