Some 1,550 flights were cancelled and 6,700 flights were delayed on Saturday, compared with Friday when 1,025 were cancelled and 7,000 were delayed. The cuts, which began on Friday morning, include about 700 flights from the four largest carriers: American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines. During the government shutdown, 13,000 air traffic controllers and 50,000 security screeners have been forced to work without pay.
