US administration has revoked 85,000 visas since January: Report

The spike reflects the government’s wider effort to tighten immigration controls and step up monitoring of foreign nationals in the United States. The revocations include more than 8,000 student visas. Officials accused some students of antisemitism and of supporting terrorism, and the State Department said in October it had revoked visas from individuals who allegedly “celebrated” Charlie Kirk ’s murder. A recent diplomatic cable said officials can deny visas to individuals who worked in areas such as content moderation and fact-checking as part of stricter vetting for H-1B applicants. Refugee resettlement remains effectively frozen, and the administration has said it will review refugees admitted under the Biden administration.Travel restrictions have also widened. Earlier this year, the administration limited entry from 19 countries.
