A member of the National Freedom Front (NFF), Mr. Samaraweera was arrested after he appeared before to give a statement regarding alleged misuse of government vehicles. He was arrested in connection with an ongoing probe into the misuse of Presidential Secretariat vehicles in the Presidential Election campaign in 2015.
