UPDATE: Luzon grid on red alert but no power interruption expected–DoEhome/Second Headline/UPDATE: Luzon grid on red alert but no power interruption expected–DoEFOR the first time this year, the Luzon grid will be placed on red alert today, Wednesday. The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) said the red alert would be up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The NGCP defines red alert as a system condition when there is zero ancillary service (AS) or a generation deficiency exists. The DoE said it did not expect any power interruption because there were 174.6MW available under the Interruptible Load Program (ILP) within the Manila Electric Co.’s (Meralco) franchise area. ILP is a scheme which aims to help alleviate supply deficiencies in the power grid by voluntarily reducing the amount of load connected to the distribution grid during the peak hours of the day, according to Meralco’s website.
