UPDATE: ‘Kong-Rey’ now a severe tropical storm, to be named ‘Queenie’ inside PH—Pagasa

According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Kong-Rey was seen 1,615 kilometers (km) east of southern Luzon, still outside Philippine territory as of 10 a.m. “Kong-Rey’s track may be the same as Paeng and it may also reach typhoon category,” weather specialist Meno Mendoza said. The tropical storm is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday or Tuesday and exit by Saturday or Sunday, he added. While Kong-Rey still has no direct effect on the country, its trough is bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over eastern Visayas. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
