The UP government's letter, which sources said was written by Jhansi division commissioner Amit Gupta, was dated January 14. It refers to fodder case RC64A/96 (Deoghar district) which judge Singh had been hearing. Judge Singh did not mention names when he alleged that he had been receiving calls from Lalu Prasad's well-wishers. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath then ordered Gupta to conduct an inquiry and submit a report. This is the normal process that inquiry will not be complete till his (Shivpal Singh) written statement is recorded," said an official of the Ranchi district collectorate.
