The arrested has been identified as Shahbaz Ahmed, 38, member of ward 4 in Kandigaon union of Sylhet Sadar upazila, says a Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) press release. The rape took place in a house in Lalbazar village under Sylhet's Dakshin Surma police station on Wednesday. Jalalabad police station Officer-in-Charge Akil Uddin said the arrested would be produced in court on Friday. The teenage rape victim is undergoing treatment at the One-Stop Crisis Centre of the MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet.
