UP, DOST to hold Aghambayan science festival

MANILA, Philippines — The University of the Philippines (UP) is joining hands with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to stage the Aghambayan science and technology festival this June 20 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Manila. The Aghambayan: A DOST-UP Science Technology and Innovation Festival will showcase the scientific projects and accomplishments of the scientific community in the UP system through a festival that hopes to raise public awareness of the value of science and its role in improving the quality of life of ordinary Filipinos. Cynthia Rose Bautista, UP vice president for academic affairs, said that UP and DOST found a need for the S&T festival to showcase the “fruits” of research and development (R&D) and how it is now benefitting the country with increased productivity and competitiveness. “The DOST has been supporting research and has been a staunch partner in research of the University of the Philippines. We are holding this festival because we would like to be able to share with the public the fruits of science, scientific research,” Bautista said in a press conference held at the B Hotel in Quezon City for the media launch of the event.
