UN's World Food Program wins Nobel Peace Prize


The United Nations food agency, the World Food Program (WFP), won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for its efforts to combat hunger and improve conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas. WATCH | 2020 Nobel Peace Prize announcement:"The coronavirus pandemic has contributed to a strong upsurge in the number of victims of hunger in the world," the Nobel committee said in its citation. "So of course this is also a call to the international community not to underfund the World Food Program," she said. The Nobel Peace Prize comes with a 10-milion krona ($1.5 million Cdn) cash award. On Monday, the Nobel committee awarded the prize for physiology and medicine for discovering the liver-ravaging hepatitis C virus.
