UNICEF to help K-P govt cut child, maternal mortalities


Overal­l object­ive of the progra­m is to contri­bute toward­s reduct­ion of new born, under five and matern­al morbid­ityPESHAWAR: K-P government with the support of Unicef has taken inititive to cut child and maternal mortalities in the merged tribal districts. The Directorate of Health Services for Merged Areas Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the support of Unicef Pakistan has initiated an integrated health program known as “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Merged Districts Support Project” in five newly merged districts Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, North Waziristan and South Waziristan. The overall objective of the program is to contribute towards reduction of new born, under five and maternal morbidity and mortality in the target areas through strengthening of community and facility based MNCH, EPI, Nutrition and WASH services to address the immediate needs of the families living in the target areas. The program will help strengthen integrated MNCH, Nutrition, EPI as well as WASH services in 15 health facilities (THQs, CH, RHCs) in the target tribal districts (three in each target district) with 24/7 Basic Emergency Obstetric and New-born Care services.
