UNFPA Supports MoH with Three Specialist Doctors for Maternal Health for Deployment in three counties -

The Ministry of Health, with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has recruited three specialist doctors from Uganda to assist with strengthening of the maternal and newborn health sector of Liberia. In addition to providing clinical services in those counties where they will be deployed, the Ugandan medical doctors will also help in building the capacity of their young Liberian counterparts through mentorship as well as supporting the overall maternal and newborn health delivery system. According to Dr. Kateh, the presence of the three Ugandan doctors will help bridge the gap and accelerate progress towards building resilience, integrated and strengthened maternal health care delivery system in Liberia. “UNFPA is aware that if Liberia is to prevent pregnant women from dying during childbirth, there must be adequate support to strengthen human resource in providing quality maternal and newborn health services. “We are committed to do more because it is needless, unnecessary and unacceptable to see women dying because they are giving life;” says Oluremi Sogunro, UNFPA Liberia Country Representative.
