DHAKA, Feb 11, 2026 (BSS) - The United Nations today called for ensuring safe, inclusive and meaningful participation of women in Bangladesh's upcoming parliamentary elections, stressing that protection from intimidation, harassment and digital violence is essential for credible democratic processes. In a statement issued ahead of the polls, the United Nations reiterated its longstanding advocacy for women's meaningful representation and leadership and said it is supporting the Bangladesh Election Commission in efforts to strengthen women's electoral participation and representation. It stressed that all voters, including women, must be able to participate as candidates and voters without intimidation, discrimination, online abuse or fear of reprisals. The statement expressed confidence that authorities would continue to uphold security and the rule of law to ensure the safety and rights of every individual. The United Nations reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the authorities in safeguarding inclusive, peaceful and credible elections.
