UN chooses Orengo’s wife, Bensouda to solve the Ethiopian crisis

On Wednesday March 2, the UN body selected the wife of Senator Siaya James Orengo, lawyer Betty Kaari Murungi, law professor Steven Ratner and former ICC chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to investigate violations in the Tigray conflict. According to a briefing from the president of the Human Rights Council, Bensouda will chair the three-person commission for a period of one year. Lawyer Betty Murungi is one of three international experts appointed by the UN Rights Council to investigate the Ethiopian conflict. The UN Rights Council also asked the Commission to rely on a report by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission. The Commission was set up amid a refusal by the Ethiopian government after the UN Rights Council decided to send international investigators to investigate the case.
