UN chief condemns North Korea’s ‘dangerous escalation’

UNITED NATIONS, United States — UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday strongly condemned North Korea’s launch of a ballistic missile that Pyongyang claimed was its first successful ICBM test. “This action is yet another brazen violation of Security Council resolutions and constitutes a dangerous escalation of the situation,” Guterres said in a statement. North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un oversaw the launch of the Hwasong-14 missile which experts say is capable of reaching Alaska. North Korea’s Academy of Defense Science said it reached an altitude of 2,802 kilometers (1,741 miles) and flew 933 kilometers. The launch came as Americans prepared to mark Independence Day, prompting President Donald Trump to urge China — North Korea’s main diplomatically — to act to “end this nonsense once and for all.” CBBADVERTISEMENTRELATED VIDEO
