UNITED NATIONS: 128 countries voted in favour of the United Nations call for the United States to withdraw its decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital at the UN General Assembly in New York here on Thursday (Dec 21). Nine countries voted against the resolution on Jerusalem, while 35 other nations abstained. The vote was made during the 37th plenary meeting of the tenth emergency special session of the UN General Assembly, which was entitled “Illegal Israeli actions in occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory”. It was last resumed in 2009 when the assembly called a meeting on East Jerusalem and the Palestinian authorities.
