ASSOCIATED PRESSThe United Nations (UN) has launched its biggest fundraising appeal in history as it says barely a tenth of funds required to fight the coronavirus pandemic have been raised. The appeal is directed mainly at rich countries and shareholders of international financial institutions, whose efforts, Lowcock says, have have been "grossly inadequate and dangerously short-sighted. But this new appeal is just for the UN's Covid-19 Global Humanitarian Response Plan. Overall, the UN and NGOs are seeking to raise a staggering $40 billion, of which not even a quarter has been met. Its Covid-19 Global Humanitarian Response Plan earmarks $384.2 million needed for Covid-related aid in the country, plus an additional $758.3 million in "Refugee Response Plans."
