UN Advisor on Libya says at Cairo meetings: There's no room for failure

The Libyan constitutional talks between the House of Representatives (HoR) and High Council of State (HCS) in Cairo kicked off its third and final round on Sunday in the presence of UN Advisor on Libya, Stephanie Williams, who reiterated that there's no room for any failure this time. Williams called in her opening remarks on the HoR and HCS members to devise constitutional framework for elections, telling the spoilers and armed groups to stop intimidating people, adding that the international community won't stand by as violations continue in Libya since they are supporters of the political settlement and elections. “This final round comes at a critical juncture in your country. After eleven years of division, weakness, conflict, chaos and polarization have exhausted Libyans, you have a real opportunity and a truly great responsibility to revive hope in the people and give them a path leading to elections within a strong constitutional framework.” She said. In the last round of the constitutional track meetings, the joint committee reached a preliminary consensus on 137 articles of the draft constitution, according to Williams, without referring to the committee’s tackling of a constitutional framework for the upcoming elections.
