The worst of the conditions are forecast to thrash western parts of the UK, with only the far south and far north of Scotland likely to escape the washout weather. As much as 40-50mm of rain could fall in parts of Wales by the end of the weekend. The forecaster says: "By Sunday, the strongest winds will be confined to north-western regions of the UK, with gusts of 30-40mph over western Scotland and exposed regions of Northern Ireland. "There will be wet and windy weather most likely in the north and west, with brighter, drier weather further south and east." Tonight (Saturday night) : Light showers over Wales and the Midlands during the evening will move into Northern Ireland, western Scotland, and northern England by morning.
