The Met Office said rain in southern and western areas would be heavy over hills, and move northwards across most areas through the day. Drivers were told to prepare for difficult conditions and travel disruption on roads and motorways due to heavy rain and gales. The evening was expected to be mild in most areas with some rain, especially in parts of Wales and western England. North-western and south-eastern parts of the UK will continue to see heavy rain at times on Sunday.
