UK weather: Torrential rain and flash flooding before 27C heatwave kicks in

Torrential rain caused travel chaos for many as London train and tube stations were forced to close because of the relentless downpour. It came after a yellow weather warning was issued by the Met Office for swathes of the south. Temperatures of up to 24C in central and southern England are forecast from Tuesday, and the mercury will rise to 18C in northern England and Scotland. A few showers likely for parts of Scotland, Wales and England but these much lighter than on recent days. Cloudier in some North Sea coastal areas and northern Scotland.
