National Severe Weather Warnings for snow and ice are in force for parts of the UK for the rest of this week and further warnings are possible. But the Met Office has said the cold weather and a continuing risk of snow will grip the UK for the rest of the week before milder air gradually spreads in from the west. "Where temperatures were close to freezing in many places last week, we could expect to see 11°C or 12°C next week. As for this weekend, Brits are bracing for more bitingly cold weather as the mercury continues to plunge and gusts of up to 40mph are set to batter the country. Severe yellow weather warnings for snow and ice also remain in place until midday for north-east England, central and north-east Scotland.
