UK weather: Ice and snow due this week as temperatures plunge to -3C

An area of high pressure to the west of the UK - which is currently bringing fine days and mild temperatures - is set to change position, drawing in biting northerly winds. Forecasters say a dusting of snow could fall during Friday and Saturday, mostly over high ground, and overnight frosts are likely elsewhere, even in the South. Temperatures could fall to as low as -3C (27F) in Scotland. Fine weather with sunny spells is likely elsewhere but temperatures will turn chillier, falling to 13C (55F) and 14C (57F) even in the South. The weather front is set to move south overnight tomorrow into Friday and clear from southern England in the morning - with the very cold conditions following behind.
