The UK will bar tourists from Trinidad and Tobago from entering the UK without a visa after finding hundreds have abused the route to claim asylum. The Home Office will announce on Wednesday that visitors from the Caribbean nation will have to apply for a visa before entering the UK after a ninefold increase in asylum applications. Claims from Trinidadians and Tobagonians have risen from an average of 49 a year between 2015 and 2019 to 439 last year. The numbers have been rising steadily over the past few years, with 173 in 2022 and 348 in 2023.
