Age verification won't block porn. There are also concerns about the effectiveness of some of the age-verification systems itself. It also raises questions as to how a similar age-verification system for all mainstream websites – as proposed by the information commissioner’s office – could be implemented. Age verification was first proposed in the run-up to the 2015 general election by Sajid Javid, when he was culture secretary in the coalition government.
