UK is bottom for transport spending

The UK spends less on transport infrastructure, as a proportion of GDP, than any other member of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development which provided data, the TUC says PABritain invests less in infrastructure than any other advanced economy except Greece and Portugal, according to the TUC. Capital spending as a share of GDP puts the UK 33rd out of the 35 members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, the TUC says, based on data from the think tank. Britain’s record was worse for transport alone, where the UK was lowest of the 34 which gave figures. The TUC published its research a week before the autumn statement, when Philip Hammond is expected to reveal plans for more spending on public projects and raise billions of private sector funding in infrastructure bonds. The TUC has called for “a significant and sustained programme of infrastructure spending with a focus on regional investment”.
