A yellow heat health alert is already in place covering London, Yorkshire and the Humber, the East Midlands, east of England, the South East and South West from Monday noon until Wednesday at 6pm. The Met Office's heatwave criteria specifies that a heatwave is an "extended period of hot weather relative to the expected conditions of the area at that time of year". The heatwave threshold in the UK is when a location records a period of at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding the heatwave temperature threshold. Recommended reading:The threshold varies by UK county, with the South East of England being around 27 or 28C. This was during an "unprecedented heatwave", with the previous record of 38.7ºC provisionally met or exceeded at 46 stations.
