Good morning: Where is the UK economy heading? Today’s gross domestic product data from the Office for National Statistics is expected to reveal that economic growth went into reverse in April after a relatively strong start to the year. According to a poll by Reuters, City economists expect the economy to have contracted 0.1 per cent month-on-month. Three-month on three-month growth is expected to have slowed to 0.4 per cent. In a note to clients last week Samuel Tombs, chief UK economist at Pantheon, warned that the data could “add fuel to the fire of the recent sharp decline in interest rate expectations”.
