A further 5,177 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in a significant fall on this time last week. Last Sunday 6,035 positive cases were confirmed in the UK, the Department of Health and Social Care reported. Over the past seven days 41,968 cases were confirmed in the country - a 31 per cent drop on the seven days before. Today's figure is the lowest since September 28, when 4,044 people tested positive. By way of comparison, on December 29 alone 81,566 positive cases were confirmed.
